Support Services Bureau
The Support Services Bureau is commanded by Captain Michael Barton.
Career
Captain Michael Barton started his career with the Daly City Police Department as a Patrol Officer in 2002, where he served as a Use of Force and TASER Instructor, Field Training Officer, SWAT Team Member from 2004 through 2009 and was selected as a Recruit Training Officer at the Basic Police Academy in 2008. In 2010, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and was assigned to the Field Operations Bureau, where he worked as a Field Supervisor and the Bicycle Unit Coordinator. Between 2011-2013, Michael was assigned to the Professional Standards Unit, where he conducted and oversaw internal investigations and was the Department’s Press Information Officer. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2014 and was assigned to the Field Operations Bureau as a Watch Commander overseeing the department daily operations, including the supervision of Patrol Officers and Sergeants assigned to his division. In 2017, Michael was assigned to the Support Services Bureau as the Division Commander to the Investigation Division where he oversaw the department’s Investigations Division, Crime Suppression Unit and Officers assigned to local and federal task forces. He was assigned to the Field Operations Bureau as the Watch Commander for Division A-1 until his recent move to Acting Captain of Support Services Bureau in January 2022. On October 19, 2022, Michael was promoted to the rank of Captain.
Education
Captain Barton holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from Menlo College and a Master's degree in Business Administration with a minor in Human Resource Management from the Keller School of Management. He has also graduated from the Sherman Block Supervisory Institute (2013), the North County Leadership Forum (2013), the Los Angeles Police Department Leadership Program (2014) and is a graduate from the FBI National Academy (2018).
