Utility Users Tax Exemption

Utility Users Tax Exemption - Seniors, Blind or Disabled

To qualify for the utility users tax exemption you must reside in the home and be 62 years of age or older (as of December 31 of the previous year), or blind or disabled, and your total household income for the previous year cannot exceed $36,620 for the utility users tax exemption. Income includes any:

  • Interests and Dividends
  • Pensions
  • Rental Income
  • Social Security
  • Wages

Required Items

The following items are needed to fill out the applications:

  • Cable Bill (if applicable) {your name should appear on the bill}
  • P.G. and E Bill {your name should appear on the bill}
  • Proof of age (i.e. birth certificate, hospital record, baptism record, or social security award letter that shows the date of birth, driver's license or I.D. card) (Once Only)
  • Proof of Disability (if applicable) (each time you apply) (letter from a doctor, social security award letter)
  • Proof of income (tax return and document from social security and bank interest and pension, etc.)
  • Telephone Bill {your name should appear on the bill}
  • This exemption does not include the Water or Garbage bills and will only affect phone, electric and cable bills.

Note

The exemption expires on May 31st. You must re-apply each year.
