2024 Pilot Study Project of Illegally Dumped Mattresses

The Mattress Recycling Council (MRC) has selected the City of Daly City to participate in their 2024 Pilot Study Project of Illegally Dumped Mattresses to better understand why the City experiences a high number of illegally dumped mattresses on Daly City streets, approximately 1300 mattresses every year.

To participate in this 12-month study, the City is partnering with Republic Services to provide a free one-time curbside collection of up to four (4) mattresses (per address) for Daly City residents. 

If you have received a notice in the mail, your address has been identified to be in an applicable zone. Please reference your notice for your collection date. 

This special collection event will be in addition to the one (1) free, annual bulky item pick up provided through Republic Services (If you live in a multi-family dwelling unit, please inquire with your property owner about your annual collection event). 

To participate in this one-time special curbside collection for mattresses only, please:

1. RSVP to the Office of the City Manager at (650) 991-8127 on the Wednesday prior to your collection date and provide your address, contact number, and the total number of mattresses to be collected (up to 4). There are 50 appointments available. RSVPs will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis.

2. Place mattresses curbside by 7am on the day of your scheduled collection.

3. Provide proof of residency at the time of collection (i.e., Driver’s License or recent utility bill)

*Limit 4 mattresses (bed & futon) and box springs per eligible address. Cannot be severely damaged/wet/soiled mattresses or box springs; items infested with bed bugs; mattress pads or toppers: sleeping bags, pillows; car beds; infant carriers, lounge pads, or crib bumpers; juvenile products such as carriages, baskets, cribs, bassinets, dressing tables, strollers, playpens, playpen pads; water beds or camping air mattresses; fold-out sofa beds, futon frames/bases; and furniture.
