Ready & Resilient
“APWA is proud to announce the theme "Ready & Resilient" for the 2022 National Public Works Week poster. Within every public works professional lies a superhero, which is dramatically represented in this year's poster. Public works professionals are always READY to serve their communities and RESILIENT as ever in their abilities to pick themselves up off the ground after encountering challenges.
The "Ready & Resilient" theme highlights the ability of these professionals to perform regular public works duties and be ready at a moment's notice to react as first responders during natural disasters and overcome trials seen in the field.
Public works superheroes help keep communities strong by providing an infrastructure of services in transportation, water, wastewater and stormwater treatment, public buildings and spaces, parks and grounds, emergency management and first response, solid waste, and right-of-way management. They are what make our communities great places to live and work. So join us in celebrating these superheroes!”

2021 Daly City Public Works Achievements
Despite the huge obstacle of the pandemic, our Public Works staff continued to persevere to ensure that our City remains a great place to live and work. Examples of projects that exemplify this are:
- Southgate/Callan Traffic Signal to improve safety and traffic flow.
- Gellert Park renovation to install new ADA restrooms, new play structure, renovate the tennis and basketball courts, and upgrade lighting to LED.
- Tennis and basketball court resurfacing at various city parks.
- Various slurry and resurfacing projects to help maintain the longevity of our streets.
- Buildings updates such as repair of Westlake Library’s HVAC and Roof Replacement.
Public Works Director, Richard Chiu, Jr., said it best - “If you drive on the streets, walk down the sidewalks, or relax in city parks, libraries, or other public buildings, you've already encountered Public Works and might not even have known it. We pave the streets, maintain public parks and buildings, and manage construction projects to rehabilitate these major public assets. Above all, we're dedicated to keeping your community safe, clean, and functioning.”
