Lieutenant Matthew Fox has been a member of the Daly City Police Department since 1997 when he started his career as a Patrol Officer. During his fourteen years as an Officer, he served as a Field Training Officer, Detective and Background Investigator.
He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in November 2014. During his two years as a Sergeant, he was responsible for the direct supervision of Patrol Officers, Traffic Officers, and served as the Department’s Field Training Coordinator.
In 2016, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. As a Lieutenant, he had many responsibilities in the organization. He was assigned as the weekday Patrol Watch Commander overseeing all department operations and supervising 12 Officers and Sergeants assigned to his division. In 2018, he was assigned as the Technical Services Lieutenant of the Special Operations Division, which includes the Department's Records Division, Property Room and Community Policing Units. As of October 3, 2022, Lieutenant Fox has been assigned to the Administrative Services Division under the Support Services Bureau.
Lieutenant Fox holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Sacramento, which he received in 1997. He has also attended the West Point Leadership Academy and is currently enrolled in California Coast University for a Master of Science degree in Justice Administration. Lieutenant Fox has been a Department Lead Trainer on issues of report writing, OTS grants, ABC licensing and community events.
