Notice regarding plan review times: Due to a high volume of applications and staff vacancies, the times frame for initial plan review is currently longer than normal. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we seek additional staff support. 

Permits Required

According to the California Building Code, as adopted by the City of Daly City, a permit is required to undertake any of the following actions regarding any building or structure in Daly City:

  • Alter
  • Construct
  • Convert
  • Demolish
  • Enlarge
  • Erect
  • Improve
  • Move
  • Remove
  • Repair

Licensed Contractors

California law requires that all home improvement projects valuated at more than $500 for labor and materials be performed by a licensed contractor.

Permit Applications & Resubmittals

To submit an application for new permits or resubmittals, email the Building Division the following:

  1. Building Permit Application (PDF) or Re-Roofing Permit Application (PDF)
  2. Credit Card Authorization (PDF)
  3. Any other supporting documentation; e.g., electronic PDF files of your drawings/plans, calculations, etc., as necessary (you may also provide us with a downloadable link to a digital cloud-based storage service to retrieve your files)

Daly City Amendments

Please refer to Ordinance No. 1461 for most recent changes made to the Municipal Code. 

Specific Daly City amendments to California Code of Regulations T-24 and International Property Maintenance Code can be obtained from the City Clerk's Office located in City Hall or may also be viewed online under our Municipal Code Title 15 Building and Construction page.
