| Henry
Doelger developed the Westlake Shopping Cener, originally
named Westlake Town and Country Shopping Center, in
phases during the 1950s and 1960s as part of the Westlake
subdivision.
The
new owners, Kimco LLP, have submitted an ambitious
plan to make major improvements to the center in two
phases over the next 2-3 years. When Phase I is completed,
the center will contain an additional 22,000 square
feet of retail space, the creation of a main street
through the center, and improvements to the parking
lots along Southgate Avenue. Phase II involves the
construction of 96,000 square feet of additional new
retail space. It also includes the construction of
a parking garage, necessary public improvements, relocation
of existing utilities, and further reconfiguration
of parking lots.
