Daly City - Routine flushing of Daly City’s water distribution system will begin the week of February 23, 2009 with expected completion by March 31, 2009.  Water Department crews will be working from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday, and will be distributing door hangers to affected residents in advance of the scheduled work.  While possible mandatory rationing is being considered for this year, it is essential to flush water mains in order to maintain water quality.  The flushing program is limited at this time to the following areas of Daly City: the Bellevue/Crocker/South Hill area, the lower King Drive/Gellert area, the bottom of Skyline/Westline area, and the Callan/King Drive area.

It will take approximately one hour to flush one city block.  While flushing is taking place, residents are advised to take precautions to avoid the potential for discolored water entering household plumbing systems by minimizing water usage. In particular, avoid washing clothes until the evening hours in order to prevent possible staining caused from sediments stirred during the flushing process.

If discolored water is observed, residents are advised to initially run only the cold water in the bathtub until it clears.  For conservation purposes, the discolored water can be saved for watering plants with no harmful effects.  If running cold water does not clear the problem after 5 minutes, residents are encouraged to notify the Daly City Department of Water and Wastewater Resources at (650) 991-8200, and a water system operator will be dispatched to provide further assistance.
