Daly
City October 11, 2007 — Our Second Home, a
vibrant community center in Daly City focusing on
low-income children and families, will hold its
first art show and reception, “Celebrating Children’s
Art,” on November 29, 2007, from 5 to 7 pm at City
Hall in Daly City.
While
enjoying paintings, collages, and sculptures on
display created by young artists from local schools,
guests can sample hearty cuisine from restaurants
including 7 Mile House, The House of Catfish and
Ribs, and Inang’s. Nonalcoholic beverages are included,
and wine will be available for purchase. Participants
can also bid on stylishly framed art in a silent
auction, buy beautiful holiday and other notecards,
and take a chance on winning one of several gift
baskets in a raffle. All proceeds from the show
will benefit Our Second Home’s programs and services,
which are offered free to low-income Daly City families
and include a preschool, English as a Second Language
(ESL) classes, parenting education, individual and
group counseling for parents, and health services.
“We’re
so excited to be hosting this art show for our first-ever
fundraiser,” says Casey Federico, Program Supervisor
at Our Second Home. “It gives us the opportunity
to display the talents of our youngest artists while
raising funds to sustain and expand our programs.”
Tickets
are $15 (suggested donation), available in advance
or at the door. Sponsorships are also available
starting at $250; all sponsorships and major donations
will receive program acknowledgement. For sponsor

ABOUT
OUR SECOND HOME
From its welcoming space at 725 Price Street in
Daly City, Our Second Home brings together Daly
City community members and service providers through
a variety or family programs and services, including
a preschool, English as a Second Language (ESL)
classes, parenting education, individual and group
counseling for parents, and health services. It
is operationally funded by First 5 San Mateo, the
Children’s Collaborative Action Team, the Health
Department, the City of Daly City, and private donations
to serve children, families, and educators of children
under age five.
In
2006–07, Our Second Home helped create real, lasting,
and positive change for more than 600 families,
in both quality and quantity of their time spent
together. The benefits include including marked
advances in children’s health, behavior and learning
skills.
“They
give us many ideas,” says one parent. “They motivate
you as a parent, and the parent is who has to motivate
the child.”
Staff
members “treat people with kindness,” adds another
parent, “so that one feels, as they say, at home.
Sometimes, not even at home are you treated that
well.”
