Daly City – The City of Daly City is seeking applicants for community liaisons for its General Plan Update Steering Committee. Applications are available online at www.dalycity.org, or may be obtained by calling the Planning Division of the City’s Economic and Community Development Department at (650) 991-8033. Daly City is undergoing a major update of its General Plan – the document used as a guideline by city planners, the Planning Commission, and City Council to make recommendations and decisions on land use and future development proposals. Individuals interested in becoming members of the Steering Committee are encouraged to apply soon. The application deadline has been extended to June 23, 2007.

The Steering Committee’s membership will be comprised of 13 people, consisting of City Councilmembers, a Planning Commissioner, volunteer resident and business liaisons, and City staff. The committee will meet on a regular basis to provide input and offer policy direction to advance the update process. As initial tasks, the committee will formulate an overall vision for Daly City, help identify priorities for development within the community, and describe more specific land use policies for ten potential development sites in Daly City. Although the committee’s role is advisory, recommendations from the panel will be taken into consideration when the City Council approves the updated General Plan.

“We are looking for members of the community willing to make a two-year commitment to the General Plan Update process,” said Mayor Maggie Gomez. “The Steering Committee will meet at least once a month through the early part of 2010. This is a very involved process that requires dedication on the part of the committee.”

City staff and members of the City Council will review applications for the community liaison positions on the steering committee after the June 15 filing deadline. The City Council is tentatively expected to announce the names of committee members at its meeting of July 9, 2007.
