Daly City – Deep-frying that holiday turkey? Deep-frying lumpia for family and friends? Don’t pour the used cooking oil down the drain. Recycle it for free.

The City of Daly City is encouraging all residents to properly dispose of their cooking oils and cooking grease for free. Pouring oils and grease down the drain causes backups into homes and streets, resulting in an unpleasant mess that can cost thousands of dollars to clean up. Fortunately, residents can help eliminate backups by making a few simple changes:

• Do NOT pour cooking oils, grease or greasy food directly down the drain.
• Do NOT use hot water and soap to wash grease down the drain, as it will cool and harden in the sewer line.
• SCRAPE dishes, pots and pans into the garbage and use a paper towel to wipe any residual grease from them before washing.
• DO pour cooled grease into disposable containers and into the garbage.
• RECYCLE cooking oils for free. Here’s how:

Daly City residents may bring their waste cooking oils in a sealed container to the Wastewater Treatment Plant located at 153 Lake Merced Blvd. Self-service recycling hours are 8:00am – 4:30pm, Monday through Friday, and no appointment is needed.
