Daly
City – The City Council selected Rose Zimmerman
as the first female City Attorney in Daly City’s
history at its regular meeting October 9. Zimmerman
will succeed retiring City Attorney Stan Gustavson
when she assumes the position on November 6,
2006. Ms. Zimmerman has served as Daly City’s
Assistant City Attorney since 2002.
“We
have selected a tremendously talented lawyer
as our new City Attorney, but we will deeply
miss Stan Gustavson,” said Mayor Michael Guingona.
“Her legal prowess, creative problem solving
ability, and enthusiasm will be invaluable to
Daly City for many, many years.”
Prior
to coming to the Daly City City Attorney’s Office,
Zimmerman was a trial attorney for the San Francisco
Public Defender’s Office. She currently serves
as Vice-President of the Filipino Bar Association
of Northern California (FBANC) and is a long-standing
member of the Asian American Bar Association.
Zimmerman,
a former Daly City resident, was born and raised
in San Francisco. She currently resides in San
Francisco with her husband René Acosta,
and their two young daughters, Jacqueline (age
3) and Jilliyn (5 months).
Her
community service commitment includes pro bono
legal services for North San Mateo County residents
through FBANC; project coordinator for at-risk
girls through the Filipino Girls Development
Program of Filipinos for Affirmative Action
(FFA); and professional staff to Immigrant Legal
Services in Alameda County.
Ms.
Zimmerman received her law degree from Santa
Clara University, and her B.A. degree in Psychology
and Speech Communications from San Francisco
State University.
Stan
Gustavson has served as City Attorney since
1992. He started his legal career as Daly City’s
Assistant City Attorney in 1980. He left Daly
City in 1986 following his appointment as City
Attorney of San Bruno, a position he held until
his return to Daly City in 1992. Gustavson and
his wife Kathy live in Pacifica. They have three
children, Andrea, Nate, and Sally.
