Daly
City, CA – Our Second Home is celebrating
the grand opening of a new building and the
community-wide goal of supporting families with
young children with a housewarming event from
12 noon to 3 pm, Saturday, May 20, at 725 Price
Street in Daly City.
After
more than four years of fundraising, Our Second
Home has moved into a new, custom-built facility.
The new building was funded by a variety of
local government, foundation, and individual
sources, and includes a childcare classroom,
meeting space, offices, and an eat-in kitchen.
The space is home-like and welcoming, with easy
access to neighborhood families and public transportation.
Our
Second Home is a grassroots family support center
and part of a collaborative effort to meet the
needs of families with children ages five and
under. The program is predominantly funded by
First 5 of San Mateo County, with an emphasis
on enhancing family relationships and supporting
families during the key early years of a child’s
development.
The
program is honored to be part of the Daly City
Peninsula Partnership Collaborative, and works
as a team with community-based groups in Daly
City in order to enhance the quality of life
for families in need. The program is collaboratively
supervised by the Daly City Peninsula Partnership
Collaborative, the City of Daly City, and local
non-profit Bayshore Child Care Services. Our
Second Home encompasses a multi-disciplinarian
approach, working with parents, educators, caregivers,
and other community resource providers with
the goal of helping support families to reach
their full potential. Our Second Home provides
classes and activities for families with young
children on a range of topics including: healthy
cooking, setting safe limits for young children,
dealing with separation and divorce, and preventing
childhood obesity.
The
Housewarming event is in honor of the great
work that families are doing with Our Second
Home, and in recognition of all of the collaborative
community support for the program. The celebration
will include food, activities, and overall family
fun. For more information about Our Second Home,
