Daly City – It’s National Volunteer Week, and this Friday, April 22nd, Daly City’s Senior Services Division will honor its corps of volunteers – about 190 in all – at the annual Volunteer Awards Ceremony to be held, from 12 noon to 1 p.m., at the Doelger Café.

Outstanding members of the Doelger Senior Center and Daly City ACCESS, as well as volunteers for the Brown Bag programs and the Lincoln Community Center will be recognized for amassing a total of 47,220 volunteer hours in 2004.

“What our senior volunteers do for Daly City is truly a labor of love. Without the countless number of unpaid hours these volunteers generously provide each week, the Doelger Senior Center cannot deliver the multitude of services and programs to our community. The seniors help run the Senior Center that serves them, and they do a fabulous job,” stated Mayor Carol L. Klatt.

Other city officials are expected to be in attendance, along with the Supporters of Doelger Senior Center Inc. Board of Directors: President Mike Pacelli, Vice President Mario Panoringan, Treasurer Anthony Zidich, Secretary Dan Duggan and Director Mike Nevin. Representing the Daly City Parks and Recreation Commission will be commissioners Andre Belarmino, Leah Berlanga and Denise Kelly.

In addition to receiving Certificates of Appreciation from the City Council and recognition pins, and in the truest essence of unheralded volunteerism, Daly City senior volunteers may also participate in various pre-event activities, such as food preparation, room decoration and awards display arrangement.

The Doelger Senior Center Café is located at 101 Lake Merced Blvd. in Daly City. Ample parking is available in the adjacent Westlake Community Center. The event is by invitation only.
