Daly City – Dedication ceremony for Thornton Beach Vista, Daly City’s panoramic oceanview overlook, will be held at noon on Saturday, April 16. It follows a “Spring Work Day” activity, which starts at 9 a.m., where volunteers will assist parks personnel in planting hundreds of native plants, and cleaning the beach and vista site. Parks and Recreation Department staff also plans to install two telescopes and unveil the park’s new entrance sign. A BBQ lunch will follow the day’s festivities. The public is invited to attend.

Located west of Highway 35 (Skyline Boulevard) at the endpoint of John Daly Blvd., the newly-renovated lookout was built within a former CalTrans right-of-way in a long-abandoned section of Highway 1 along the Daly City coast. Improvements include a 19-car parking lot, a commanding overlook area, interpretive signs, newly planted native vegetation and solar-powered lighting. Funding for the $686,000 multi-agency project came from the State of California, CalTrans and the City of Daly City.

“The cliffside ocean view at Thornton Beach Vista is breathtaking. Even on a typical foggy Daly City afternoon, it is still spectacular. We invite the community to enjoy this site soon,” remarked Mayor Carol L. Klatt.

Visitors are encouraged to visit the area during the hours of operation, from dawn to dusk.
