Dear Daly City Resident,

Have you noticed anything new in your neighborhood lately? Throughout Daly City, notable changes are happening – in the tot lot nearby, on major thoroughfares like John Daly Boulevard and Junipero Serra, and at popular gathering places like the Doelger Senior Center and the Lincoln Community Center.

What’s New In Our Neighborhoods is a snapshot and representative of what City employees are working on, every day of the year. This easy-to-follow guide maps out how your tax dollars are invested, finding their way back to you – to the street where you live, the parks where your children play, the business district where you shop and dine, and the many city services essential to you and your family.

Two years ago, this City Council approved a $40 million five-year capital improvement program to renovate and replace many aging public facilities in Daly City. From small scale projects (such as fixing 15 tot lot neighborhood parks) to building new infrastructure essential to the region (like the new $6 million recycled water treatment plant), we are prepared to meet the community’s present and future needs.

What the City of Daly City has accomplished in such a short time, with its limited resources, reflects the dedication, commitment and skills of those charged to lead this city of 105,000 residents. It is a team comprised of community and business leaders, homeowners associations, parents, teachers, and entrepreneurs working side-by-side with city officials to improve Daly City’s quality of life.

From the initial visioning process to the design phase, up to the ribbon-cutting ceremonies, the City has an active partner in these projects: the community. Daly City residents have taken a hands-on approach in most of these public and private development projects. Many creative ideas and innovative solutions came from neighborhood meetings.

Hillside Park, 222 Lausanne Ave. New clubhouse, 1,200 square feet. Tot lot reconstruction. Under Design.

Edgewood Park, 173 East Vista Ave. New playground equipment. Features a 20-foot in-ground slide and a sloped scramble wall. Completed.

ROAD IMPROVEMENTS

Resurfacing of Orange Street, Villa Street, East Moltke Street. Completed.

WATER SYSTEM IMPROVEMENTS

Smart & Final, 6967 Mission St. Open for business.

Landmark Site, Hillside Blvd., John Daly Blvd. and Mission St. Proposed mixed-use commercial development, including "for sale" townhomes. Proposed development by Borel Poplar. Under Design.

Mixed-Use Facility, 6854 Mission St. Nine apartments, and about 2,400 square feet of commercial space. Under Design.

War Memorial Community Center and Library, 6655 Mission St. Approximately 30,000 square feet. Under Design.

Fire Station 92, 18 Bepler St. Approximately 6,900 square feet, featuring two apparatus bays, day room, sleeping quarters, exercise room. Under Design.

Commercial Building, 50 Hill St. Approximately 7,000 square foot warehouse. Under Design.

NEW BUILDINGS

Corporation Yard, Niantic Ave. and Citrus Ave. New Parks Maintenance Shop (approximately 13,000 square feet). Renovated and remodeled buildings for four Public Works divisions, vehicle wash bay, employee parking. Completed.

PARKS AND RECREATION IMPROVEMENTS

Marchbank Park, North Parkview Ave. and South Parkview Ave. New clubhouse, about 1,200 square feet. New concession and restroom building at ball field. Field improvements, picnic area, reconfigured basketball court, ADA ramp, new play equipment. Under Construction.

John Daly Park, 130 Hillcrest Drive. Tot lot reconstruction. Completed.

Jefferson High School, 6996 Mission St. Additional lighting for night use in the Tennis and Basketball courts. Under Design. Pool renovation. Feasibility study underway.
