City Council Selects Daly City's First Afro-Filipino Mayor, Filipina Vice Mayor

For the first time in the City’s 105-year history, Daly City will have an Afro-Filipino Mayor and a Filipina Vice Mayor. The City Council unanimously chose newly elected councilmembers Glenn R. Sylvester and Juslyn C. Manalo to serve as Mayor and Vice Mayor respectively at its reorganization meeting on December 12, 2016. The Mayor and Vice Mayor will serve in their roles for one year terms. Daly City’s Mayor and Vice Mayor are selected by the City Council at its annual reorganization meeting, usually held in the first or second week of each December.

Daly City’s Dept. of Library and Recreation to Host Beers of Bavaria Workshop on February 9

The Daly City Department of Library and Recreation Services is hosting Books and Brews, Part 2, Beers of Bavaria, on Thursday, February 9, 2017 starting at 6:00 p.m. in Café Doelger, 111 Lake Merced Blvd., Daly City. The event will feature performances by author Frank Portman (Dr. Frank of the Mr. T Experience and author of King Dork, Andromeda Klein, and King Dork Approximately) and Kepi Ghoulie (formerly of the Groovie Ghoulies), with D.J. Sid Presley.

City offices closed in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Monday, January 16

City offices, including libraries and recreation facilities, will be closed Monday, January 16, 2017, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. City Hall will re-open at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17. Parking enforcement to accommodate street sweeping will be suspended for the holiday. Street sweeping and parking enforcement will resume on Tuesday, January 17. Garbage and recycling collection will follow the regular schedule on Monday, January 16.
