JULY 14, 2008

 

            The meeting was called to order by Mayor Klatt at 7:08 P.M.

            It was moved by Councilmember Torres, seconded by Councilmember Guingona and carried to approve the minutes of May 12, 2008.

            Assistant City Manager Kerry Burns stated staff is requesting that the City Council continue this item to July 28, 2008, at which time we will set the hearing date.

 

            It was moved by Councilmember Torres, seconded by Councilmember Christensen and carried to continue this item to the meeting of July 28, 2008.

City Council

 

            Councilmember Christensen expressed appreciation for the donations the City received from the Philippine Association of University Women ($1,000) and from Richard Rocchetta ($250) for our public libraries.

 

            Councilmember Torres stated that there will be auditions for American Idol this Thursday at the Cow Palace.  I know there has been some talk that the Writers Guild Union is against the company, Free Mantel Media.  There are a number of people who work for Free Mantel Media that have filed lawsuits against them in the amount of $250,000.  I just wanted to lend my support to the cause.

 

Staff

 

            Assistant City Manager Kerry Burns reported that State Senator Leland Yee’s Senate Bill SB1527 successfully made it through the Senate.  The Senate voted to move it to the Assembly.  It has not yet been assigned to the subcommittees to repeat the process that we have been undertaking for the last several months.  We passed a major milestone but still have several hurdles.

            It was moved by Mayor Klatt, seconded by Councilmember Christensen and carried to adjourn the meeting at 7:35 P.M. in memory of Julius Sio Cabral, Dr. Nicholas Chopellas, Catherine Agnes Leary Torlakson and Virginia Klatt Kneller.
