Street Resurfacing Utilizing Stimulus Funds

As a result of a favorable bidding environment, the City realized a cost savings in the Street Resurfacing 2009 project using federal stimulus funds. The City proposed to utilize the cost savings toward the repair of additional City streets:

  • Carter Street from Steve Courter Way to the City Limit near Geneva Avenue
  • Crocker Avenue from Mission Street to Brunswick Street

Work on Carter Street and Crocker Avenue commenced in Spring 2010 and is currently in progress.

Gellert Boulevard, 87th St, and Bellevue Avenue Rehabilitation

In November 2006, California voters passed Proposition 1B allowing the State to sell $19.9 billion in general obligation bonds for State and local transportation improvement projects. These funds are to be used to relieve congestion, reduce further deterioration, improve traffic flows, or increase the safety and security of the transportation system.  Daly City's share was $1,707,511.32.  A portion was used to resurface King Drive in 2009.  The remaining funds will:

  • Rehabilitate Gellert Boulevard from Hickey Boulevard to Serramonte Boulevard
  • Resurface 87th Street from Junipero Serra Boulevard to Sullivan Avenue
  • Resurface Bellevue Avenue from Pope Street to Southhill Boulevard

Work will begin in Summer 2010.

Street Slurry and Cape Seal 2010

Daly City has instituted a Street Slurry Seal Project as an annual preventative maintenance program to preserve and extend the life of City streets in a cost effective and efficient manner. This year’s program includes:

  • Surface treatment on approximately 10.7 miles of City streets in the eastern area of Daly City
  • Slurry sealing and installing bicycle lanes on approximately 0.80 miles of Southgate Avenue (partially funded by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District’s Bicycle Facilities Program)

  • Pavement repairs in the parking lot at 271 – 92nd Street.

Construction is anticipated to start in mid-July 2010 and be completed by September 2010.

The detailed construction schedule and map is posted here.

Mussel Rock Site Maintenance 2010

This work includes vegetation removal, surface water channel cleaning, resetting half-round corrugated metal pipe (CMP), installation of full-round and half-round CMP, seawall survey, regrading, seawall repair, reseeding and erosion control, and fence installation.

Construction will start in mid-August 2010 and will be completed by mid-October 2010.

Projects Completed Since Summer 2009

King Drive Resurfacing

King Drive was resurfaced from Highway 35 to Verducci Drive funded by Proposition 1B funds.

King Drive Bicycle Lanes

King Drive has been classified as a Class II bike route in the City's Bicycle Route Master Plan. The City was awarded a grant of $38,000 from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) under the Transportation Fund for Clean Air (TFCA) program for the installation of bike lanes along King Drive from Skyline Blvd to Junipero Serra Blvd.

Street Resurfacing Utilizing Stimulus Funds

On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) into law. Daly City was allocated $1,363,000 as its share of ARRA funding. In an on-going effort to improve our community, this ARRA funding provided much needed funding to rehabilitate some of our highly trafficked streets:

  • Callan Boulevard from Hickey Boulevard to Serramonte Boulevard
  • Mission Street from Wellington Avenue to Crocker Avenue
  • Glenwood Avenue from Eastgate Drive to Lake Merced Boulevard
  • John Daly Boulevard from Cliffside Drive to Sheffield Drive
  • Carter Street from Guadalupe Canyon Parkway to 1101 Carter Street

Thank you for your patience as we make improvements to our community.
