Top of the Hill Improvements
The Top of the Hill Improvements project includes the construction of a pedestrian/transit plaza at the Mission Street/John Daly Boulevard intersection, a custom designed pergola structure with wind screening, and a new bus shelter and pedestrian safety and mobility improvements along Mission Street from John Daly Boulevard to Parkview Avenue as well as streetscape/landscape improvements along the corridor. The pedestrian and streetscape improvements include bulb-outs at intersections to make pedestrians more visible to traffic and shorten street crossings, a new pedestrian crossing at the north leg of the John Daly Boulevard intersection, widening of the west sidewalk between Theta Avenue and Parkview Avenue, new street trees, pedestrian scale lighting and modified median islands with new landscaping. A water main will be upgraded and relocated along the west side of Mission Street from John Daly Boulevard to Parkview Avenue.
Construction will start in mid-April 2011 and will be completed by December 2011.
Sewer Main Improvements
Sewer Main Improvements includes replacing deteriorated underground sewer pipes and laterals with new Vitrified Clay or High Density Poly Ethylene pipes as well as manholes within the project area. These upgrades will make the City’s wastewater collection system more efficient and enable the City to meet the future wastewater needs in Daly City neighborhoods.
Construction will start in April 2011 and will be completed by July 2011.
Street Slurry Seal and Cape Seal 2011
Since 1998, Daly City Public Works has undertaken a comprehensive street pavement preventative maintenance program that includes an annual Street Slurry Seal Project. Street slurry sealing and cape sealing replaces fine aggregate stripped from the pavement surface, reduces water penetration in the roadway base and thereby reduces base failures and the resultant damage that is much more costly to repair. This year’s project includes the St. Francis Heights neighborhood.
Construction is anticipated to start in late July 2011 and be completed by September 2011.
Street Resurfacing 2011
The Street Resurfacing 2011 project utilizes California Proposition 1B funding to improve City streets. Work will include the installation or upgrade of sidewalk ramps at select locations, pavement repairs, milling of the pavement surface, and overlay of the street with a new layer of asphalt concrete. Work will include associated tasks such as utility box and manhole adjustments and pavement striping and marking.
The construction start date is August 1, 2011. Construction is anticipated to be substantially completed by the end of September 2011.

Gellert Boulevard Bicycle Lanes
The City received Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) grant funds to install 1.25 miles of Class II bike lanes along Gellert Boulevard between Hickey Boulevard and King Drive, with a pedestrian refuge at the intersection of Gellert Boulevard/Serravista Avenue. The project also includes installing a Class III bike route on Gellert Boulevard between Serramonte Boulevard and Hickey Boulevard, thereby completing the bikeway on Gellert Boulevard. Signage, striping and pavement markings will be installed to designate the bike lanes along Gellert Boulevard and a pedestrian refuge island will be constructed in front of Fire Station No. 94.
This work is scheduled to occur between July 11, 2011 and August 2011.
