Crossing Guard

 

DESCRIPTION

To aid and assist school children across designated crosswalks ensuring their safety. The position would entail approximately 2 to 3 1/2 hours per day between 8:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., immediately preceding and following school.

Only working days are actual schooldays and all school holidays and during the summer months would be non-working days; this is a recurrent position and no City benefits apply.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Responsible for a designated crosswalk in which, preceding school, and after school, will assist and aid children in their endeavors to and from school; use common sense and good judgment ushering children across the street.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: California traffic crossing laws and experience with children.

Ability to: Handle children in an effective and compassionate manner; use good judgment in choosing proper times for escorting children across the street; be calm in all situations; eyesight capable of judging vehicle positions relative to the school children; mobility to escort children across streets.

Experience: None required.

Education: Not applicable.
