National Night Out

NNO 2017National Night Out is a community police awareness raising event in the United States, held the first Tuesday of August. This event has been held annually since 1984 and is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch in the United States and Canada.  National Night Out is a national effort to promote involvement in crime prevention activities and community-police partnerships. It also sends a message to criminals letting them know that communities are organized and fighting back.  Our department has been holding a formal event at the Serramonte Shopping Center parking lot for the last few years. The event began simply with neighbors turning on their porch lights and sitting in front of their homes.

This year's event was on August 1, and it featured members from ADT Security, Allied Waste Services, American Cancer Society, California Highway Patrol, the Daly City Faith Community, Daly City Fire Department, Daly City Lion’s Club (who will be conducted free eye screenings), Daly City Library and Recreation Services, Daly City Police Officers Association, Daly City Water & Wastewater Department, DJ Keith O., Jefferson High School PTA, Lucky's, Macy's, MADD, San Mateo County HICAP, Sonitrol Security, Sprouts, Target,  and the Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary. The intent of hosting this event was for people to meet fellow residents and Police, Fire, and City staff, partake in fun activities and raffles, and have giveaways for children. In addition, the popular Off the Grid Food Trucks was right next to our event.
