On Saturday, October 28, 2017, Daly City celebrates its 19th consecutive year of participation in Make a Difference Day, a National Day of Volunteerism. Daly City residents are asked to “Make a Difference” by volunteering or participating in a number of events. All volunteers are invited to attend the post-event lunch at 12:00 noon at the City Hall Plaza and Rose Garden. The lunch is sponsored by the Daly City Host Lions Club.

Free Document Shredding Drop-off
Gather up personal and financial documents for free shredding. This protects you and also produces recycled materials. Bring them to City Hall, located at 333 90th Street, 9am-12pm.

Free E-Waste Drop-off
Don't throw your old electronics into the trash, safely dispose of them at Make A Difference Day. Bring them to City Hall, located at 333 90th Street, 9am-12pm.

Used Tire Take-Back
Residents can bring up to 9 passenger or light truck tires, up to R19.5, with our without rims. NOT for farm, heavy duty, and commercial or heavy equipment tires. NO commercial tire, auto repair, or salvage businesses. Safely recycle your old tires at Make A Difference Day. Bring them to City Hall, located at 333 90th Street, 9am-12pm.

Compost Giveaway
Residents can get up to 1 cu yd of compost (or more if quantity allows!). Made from food scraps and yard trimmings from Daly City residents and businesses under our new curbside collection of organic waste (the stuff you put in your green compost cart). Great for gardens. Please bring your own container or bag; shovels will be provided. Available at City Hall, located at 333 90th Street, 9am-12pm.

Pat's Closet Drop-In Shopping (gently used clothing and home goods for free)
The City invites the community to shop gently used items at Pat's Closet, located at 204 92nd Street, which will be open for this special Saturday event from 9am-12pm. If you would like to donate items to Pat's Closet, you may do so during the week, Monday - Friday from 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm at the Community Service Center at 350 90th Street (right across from City Hall). Click here for a list of items needed. Hands-on projects that are in need of volunteer help include:

  • Mussel Rock Coastal Clean-up - Volunteers must register here in advance to collect litter and recyclables from 9-11am.

  • Mission Street-Top of the Hill Clean-up - Volunteers will meet at Bepler and Mission Street to collect litter and recyclables from 9am-12pm. During the event parking is available at the municipal parking lots on Bepler.

  • Rain Gardens on Mission Street - Help with planting, mulching and weeding at the series of 8 Project Green Space rain gardens in Top of the Hill; all plants, materials, and supplies are provided. Come ready to do some light physical work from 9am-12pm. Parking for volunteers available at the municipal parking lots at Bepler.

  • Neighborhood Clean-ups – Volunteer with a group of friends and neighbors to collect litter and recyclables in your own neighborhood.

  • Park Clean-ups – Volunteer with a group of friends and neighbors to collect litter and recyclables. Choose a park that is your favorite or we'll set a location up for you!
