Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events

San Mateo County residents can safely dispose of household hazardous waste (HHW) free of charge at special drop-off collection events four times a year.

The final HHW collection event of 2018 will be:

  • December 8

For a full listing of HHW collection events in all San Mateo County cities, see this flyer

The collection events take place from 8:30 am to 12:15 pm. To participate, residents must schedule an appointment at San Mateo County's HHW Program: www.smchealth.org/hhw or by calling (650) 363-4718, select option 3.

You do not have to wait for a collection event to dispose of HHW! Residents unable to attend the events can still dispose of HHW for free at San Mateo County's permanent HHW facility, Thursdays - Saturdays (except major holiday weekends). You must make an appointment at www.smchealth.org/hhw or by calling (650) 363-4718, select option 3.
