Summer Learning 2014

Paws to Read

Where do I start?
Visit your local Daly City Public Library branch to join. You'll get a free book, just for showing up! Follow along with your reading log to complete the program. Qualify for great prizes along the way.

Why should I participate?

Summer learning is good for your schoolwork. Without it, many kids forget up to 1/3 of what they learn during the school year.

Summer learning makes you a more interesting person. It broadens your horizons, exposes you to new skills and ideas, and helps you improve your teamwork.

Also, you can win great prizes!

What can I win?

★ Everyone who joins will get a free book.

★ Finishing the program gets you a ticket to our exclusive end-of-summer party and another free book.

★ Along the way you can earn tickets for our weekly drawings with prizes like movie tickets, ice cream, gift cards, and merchandise from Disney's Frozen.

★ Oh, and one lucky Daly City kid will win $1,000 for college!

How do I finish the program?
This year, Summer Learning means enjoying reading and trying new things. We can give you lots of ideas, but the choices are yours.

★ What kind of books should you read? That's up to you. Graphic Novels, science experiments, cookbooks, everything counts.

★ What is an active learning experience? There are tons of ideas inside the reading log you'll get when you sign up. Be creative and try something new!

Families with Children Under 5
★ Completion requirement: do an early literacy/learning activity, read a book, or attend a library program for a total of 30 days.

Kindergartners-3rd Graders
★ Completion requirements: Complete 6 activities and read for 30 days.

4th-6th Graders
★ Completion requirements: Read 5 books and try 6 activities.

7th-12th Graders
★ Completion requirements: Read 5 books and have 6 active learning experiences.

The libraries will start accepting completed logs on July 1st. If you finish quickly you can start a second log!

Download your own log from the Summer Learners Website serving all Peninsula Libraries.

For Adults

★ Pick up book review forms at any Daly City library and turn them in with your glowing or scathing remarks. We'll post reviews for other patrons to enjoy.

★ Each review enters you in a fabulous prize drawing to be held at the end of the summer.

There is no limit to the number of times you may enter, but you can only win once. You need not be present to win.
