Public Use Computers

The Daly City Public Library provides access to computers with internet and Microsoft Office applications at all four locations.

Time Limit: 2 hours/day per person, enforced by timing software.  Express Stations providing 15 minute access are available at all locations.  A valid library card is required for 1-hour sessions.

Reservations: Computers may be reserved from reservation stations within the libraries.  Advanced reservations may be made online for the same day usage.  All computers are available on a first come-first serve basis if there are no pending reservations.

Accessibility: JAWS (Screen Reader Software) is available for the visually impaired at the Serramonte Library.

Printing: Printing is 15¢ per page (black and white, laser quality) and 40¢ per page (color, laser quality).  Each user may set up a print account.  Unused funds remain in the account and can be used at any PLS library.

Saving: Work can be saved to a USB flash drive at all Daly City Libraries.  USB flash drives are available to purchase for $6.00 (8 GB) and $10.00 (16 GB).

Restrictions: For security reasons, files may not be saved or installed on the hard drive of a library computer and optical drives are read only.

Privacy:  The Library respects and protects the privacy of all users.  A library card is required for computer use so that the software can enforce time limits, thus assuring that everyone gets a chance to use the computers.

All users are required to accept our Computer Use and Internet Use Policies when logging in to use public computers.

Wireless Access

The Daly City Public Library provides wireless internet access at all locations.  Bring your laptop or mobile device to the library and surf the web as long as you want.

Important notice to wireless users:

When you bring your laptop or mobile device to the Library, remember not to leave it unattended.  The Library is not responsible for items left unattended.

Wireless users should protect laptops from viruses and other Internet threats through the use of antivirus software and personal firewall software.  No such protection is offered by the Library's wireless connection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What do I need to access the Library's wireless network?

A: You need a laptop computer or mobile device that has wireless capabilities.

Q: From where can I access the Library's wireless network?

A:The network is accessible anywhere in the four Daly City Library locations.  A limited number of power outlets are available at all locations for laptop users.  Ask the staff if you have questions about the coverage area.

Q:Are there any restrictions on the use of the wireless network?

A: You may not use the network to view images, text or graphics that are obscene.  See the Daly City Public Library's Internet Use Policy, available at the Service Desks, for further information.

The bandwidth available for the wireless Internet connection is shared with all others in the library.  To show consideration for others' needs, we ask you not to download excessively large files or use peer-to-peer file sharing programs.

Q: How do I connect to the wireless network?

A: You do not need any special configuration, as our network is an "open" network.  Depending on the library you are in, the network names are Serramonte Library, Westlake Library, John Daly Library or Bayshore Library.  Once connection is established, you will need to accept our Terms of Use Policy before having access.

Q: Can I print from my laptop using any of the Library's printers?

A: Yes, wireless printing is available for laptops and mobile devices (smart phones and tablets).  Printing is 15¢ per page (black and white, laser quality) and 40¢ per page (color, laser quality).  Instructions for wireless printing can be found here.
