KERRY BURNS SELECTED AS DALY CITY'S
NEW ASSISTANT CITY MANAGER

Daly City
– City Manager Patricia Martel announced that longtime public sector administrator Kerry Burns has been selected as Daly City’s new Assistant City Manager. Burns’ selection follows a rigorous recruitment effort to fill the position that has been vacant since May.

“Kerry Burns is an outstanding addition to the City’s professional management staff,” said City Manager Patricia Martel. “Her background in public service is impressive. She brings nearly 20 years of experience to the job and has a track record of outstanding performance.”

Burns spent the last two years as Deputy Director in San Jose Fire Department’s Bureau of Administrative Services. She directed a 14-person team responsible for providing administrative services to the 853 staff in the fire department. She has been responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating department service delivery performance measures, operating and capital budgets, grants and fiscal services, human resources, employee and labor relations, internal affairs, and recruitment outreach. Prior to working with the San Jose Fire Department, Burns served six years as the Fire Administration Manager of the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department. She has also worked in various capacities for the cities of Union City, Fremont, Livermore, and Norwalk (Los Angeles County).

“I am honored and delighted to join the Daly City team,” Burns said. “I look forward to making meaningful contributions in the years to come.”

A Southern California native, Burns earned both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Public Administration degrees at USC. She and her husband Scott Burns relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1993. She assumes the position of Assistant City Manager in Daly City on January 22, 2007.
