Local Bicycle – Pedestrian Advisory Committee Seeks New Members To Plan Commute Options

Daly City – While the Bay Area celebrates the 10th annual Bike to Work Week this week, Daly City is looking for ways to get civic-minded bikers and walkers be more involved locally, as members of its Bicycle – Pedestrian Committee Advisory Committee (DC-BPAC).

Since its inception in January 2003, the seven-member group, which currently has two vacancies, has played an integral role in planning and promoting pedestrian and bicycle safety in Daly City. The committee has drafted the proposed Bicycle Master Plan for Daly City, as well as reviewed applications by the city for transportation-related grants. It also provides advice to the Director of Public Works.

DC-BPAC members are expected to attend committee meetings, which are held on the first Wednesday in January, April, July and October, at 7 p.m., in City Hall. The advisory group is comprised of members with one, or two-year terms. Appointments are made by the City Manager. Interested applicants may request an application form by calling the City Clerk’s Office at (650) 991-8078. For additional information about Daly City’s Bicycle – Pedestrian Committee Advisory Committee, call (650) 991-8231.

On Bike To Work Day this Thursday, May 20th, Daly City is one of the designated “Energizer Stations” in the Bay Area. From 7:30 to 9 a.m. at City Hall, located at 333 –90th Street, bicycling commuters are welcome to “load up” on free treats and information on getting around the Bay Area by bike. For more information on Daly City’s “Energizer Station,” call (650) 991-8127.

The Bay Area’s Bike to Work week celebration is a collaborative effort of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), city and county agencies, local bicycle coalitions and volunteers. Call (650) 588-8170, 511, or visit www.511.org for additional event information.
