Community Input for Measure a Renewal Workshop

DALY CITY AND SAN MATEO COUNTY TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY SEEK COMMUNITY INPUT FOR MEASURE A RENEWAL WORKSHOP

Daly City – The San Mateo County Transportation Authority is conducting a workshop on Wednesday, December 10, 2003 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 333 90th Street to discuss Measure A – the County’s half-cent sales tax for transportation and congestion relief improvements. Transportation Authority staff will facilitate a discussion of the achievements of Measure A and present future plans for seeking an extension of the initiative on the November 2004 ballot. Daly City residents are encouraged to attend this meeting to help shape the future of the community’s transportation infrastructure.

Public input is critically important in determining the priority of future Measure A revenue allocations. This workshop is being conducted to help identify projects to be included over the next 20-year cycle of the tax, which is expected to generate more than $1 billion.

The Measure A half-cent sales tax is set to expire in 2008. Although much has been accomplished during the past 15 years, it is readily apparent that congestion relief efforts will remain a priority for many years to come. The Transportation Authority is seeking an extension of Measure A, subject to voter approval, so that future transportation projects will have a secure funding source. Daly City has much at stake as the parameters for eligible expenditures and special projects are developed for the next 20 years.

Questions about the December 10th workshop may be directed to the Transportation Authority at (650) 508-6248.
