$1.6 MILLION PUBLIC WORKS PROJECTS
UNDERWAY IN DALY CITY

Daly City – Three Public Works construction projects totaling over $1.6 million, for street resurfacing, slurry seal and landscape work at various locations in Daly City are currently underway.

The $1.1 million major street resurfacing contract was awarded to Interstate Grading and Paving, Inc. of South San Francisco. The project will provide a new asphalt concrete overlay on 1.3 miles of city streets that include Callan Blvd., Clarinada Avenue, Wakefield Avenue, Oriente Street, Florence Street, Teresa Street, Garden Gateway, Pamela Court, and Thiers Street. The pedestrian walkway at Belmar Avenue and Park Plaza Drive, various wheelchair access ramps, and the Civic Center main parking lot are also part of the planned improvements. Construction began last week, with a projected completion date of October 2003.

The $208,000 street slurry seal contract was awarded to American Asphalt of Hayward. It involves 7.6 miles of city streets in the Bayshore, Southern Hills and Westlake neighborhoods. The slurry seal process increases the pavement life by approximately five to seven years. The project will start this month, and should be completed by October 2003.

The $340,000 landscape construction contract for the Westlake freeway off-ramp was awarded to J. A. Gonsalves & Son Construction, Inc. of Napa. A joint project with CalTrans, the streetscape enhancement site is along Junipero Serra Boulevard, from Citrus Avenue to 180 feet south of the Interstate 280 off-ramp. Improvements will include a new gateway entry mural, a landscaped median island and street trees on the west side of the street. Work dates will be from September through December 2003.

Street repairs are selected based on priority need, as assessed by the City’s Pavement Management Program. For more information about these Public Works projects, call the Engineering Division at (650) 991-8064, or visit the Department of Public Works web page at www.dalycity.org .
