DALY CITY CELEBRATES
PUBLIC WORKS WEEK

VETERAN CITY EMPLOYEE TO RECEIVE AWARD OF MERIT

Daly City – Public Works Week celebration in Daly City continues this Friday, May 23rd, with vehicles from the Public Works Department and the Department of Water and Wastewater Resources on display at two sites. From 9 to 9:30 a.m., a street sweeper, a sewer and storm drain TV truck and a high-velocity sewer vacuum truck will be at John F. Kennedy School, located at 785 Price Street. Starting at 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., the three vehicles will be at Westlake Shopping Center parking lot on John Daly Boulevard. Public Works employees will also be on site to provide information.

Also this Friday, Public Works Streets Division Supervisor Russ Ranson will receive an Award of Merit from the Northern California chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA) at its awards luncheon at H’s Lordships Restaurant in Berkeley. Ranson, a Daly City employee for 29 years, has been credited for his leadership in the successful expansion of the city’s street sweeping program.

At its regular meeting last week, the City Council proclaimed the week of May 18 to May 24 Public Works Week in Daly City, in conjunction with the National Public Works Week, sponsored by APWA. Mayor Adrienne Tissier urged Daly City residents and civic organizations to recognize “the basic, essential city services that affect our health, safety, comfort and quality of life which are provided each and every day by public works employees.”

Also last May 12, Public Works Director D. Peter Gleichenhaus announced the department’s Employee of the Year 2003, Pat Kelly, another 29-year city employee. Kelly’s “outstanding and invaluable contributions” as the city’s Street and Sidewalk Inspector, as well as his significant community service work in various organizations, earned him the commendation.
