Slurry Seal 2019 Projects: Crocker/Hillside, Junipero Serra Blvd & San Pedro Rd

Since 1998, Daly City Public Works has undertaken a comprehensive street pavement preventative maintenance program that includes an annual Street Slurry Seal Project. This year’s project includes the Crocker/Hillside neighborhood, Junipero Serra Boulevard, San Pedro Road, and sections of Southgate Avenue and San Fernando Way. This project is funded by Senate Bill 1 (SB 1), the Road Repair and Accountability Act.

The City will be applying a slurry seal treatment between June and September 2019. The slurry seal process spreads a thin asphalt and aggregate mixture on the street surface to provide a protective coating that extends the pavement life and improves its appearance. The cost for maintaining and extending the useful life of a street before it begins to fail is much more cost effective than repairing and rehabilitating a street that has failures. Slurry seal treatment is approximately one tenth the cost of complete asphalt resurfacing.
