Once Upon a Time in Daly City children’s book release set for Thursday, Nov. 17

Daly City resident Jessica Diaz will be signing her newly released children’s book, Once Upon a Time in Daly, at the John Daly Library, 134 Hillside Blvd., from 6:00 to 8:0 p.m. on Thursday, November 17. The self-published book celebrates Daly City’s historical heroes, including John D. Daly and John Marchbank. Diaz wrote and illustrated the book, her first effort as an author.

“The timing is good,” Diaz said. “Daly City is commemorating its centennial, and many children don’t know about the City’s history. This gives them a chance to relate to some of the people who were around when the City was just starting.”

The book signing event will include the unveiling of a donated portrait of John D. Daly, for whom the library is named. Historical artifacts, on loan from the Daly City History Museum, will also be on display.

Copies of Once Upon a Time in Daly City will be available for purchase at the program. The event is free and open to the public. Following a brief interactive discussion on Daly City’s history, a birthday cake will be served to celebrate Daly City’s 100th birthday.
