San Francisco Giants World Series Trophy Comes to Daly City Friday, January 25

Fans of the San Francisco Giants will be able to celebrate once again beginning in January when both the 2012 and 2010 World Series trophies will be on tour, and have selected Daly City as one of its stops, in part because of their Junior Giants program which runs in the summertime. Giants fans can get an up-close view of the trophy when it comes to City Hall, 333 90th Street, on Friday, January 25 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. This opportunity is open to the public with a voluntary donation of $2.00 per person requested. Funds raised will be used to enhance the Junior Giants program in Daly City. Parking around the Daly City Civic Center is limited, so fans are encouraged to carpool or take public transit (SamTrans Route 121 stops at Edgeworth Avenue and 90th Street).

"It was really important to us this time, given a second opportunity, to create a trophy tour which allowed us to connect with our fans as well as the more than 20,000 kids who participate in our Junior Giants baseball program," said Larry Baer, Giants president and chief operating officer, in a statement.

As with the last trophy tour experience in 2010 with the Giants, they are not sure how many people will visit the trophy, but initial “viewing” parties were tremendously popular with fans. The Giants are going to do their best to accommodate everybody, but the lines will be managed on a first-come, first-served basis in whatever manner is necessary to keep the viewing and tour on schedule and to ensure the safety of those in line. Of course, there are some rules to follow. Rule 1: You can’t touch the trophy. Rule 2: You can pose with the trophy. A photographer will take photos that can be purchased online. Depending on the length of the line, fans may be permitted to take photos with their own cameras.

In anticipation of the event, the Mayor and City Council are proclaiming January 25 as San Francisco Giants Day in Daly City. The Giants and the City of Daly City have enjoyed a cooperative partnership over the years. The Junior Giants, a program of the Giants Community Fund, helped build two baseball fields in Daly City – Bobby Bonds Field at John F. Kennedy School and Aaron Rowand Field at Panorama School. Daly City Youth are always well represented at Junior Giants Day at AT&T Park.
