Daly City Prepares for the Powerful Storm System Forecasted to Start on Wed., December 10

Daly City is preparing for the powerful storm system that is forecasted to hit the City starting Wednesday evening.  According to the National Weather Service, heavy rains, possible thunderstorms, and strong winds are expected through Thursday evening.

With the imminent storm, the City asks residents to help prevent isolated flooding by ensuring neighborhood storm drains are clear of leaves and debris. Flooding may occur due to the large volume of rain coming down in a short amount of time. After the storm breaks, any resultant flooding is expected to subside. If you are experiencing prolonged flooding, call 9-1-1.

Residents are advised not to park their vehicles, especially overnight, in low lying areas with a history of short duration flooding, including the following areas:

  • Sections of 87th, 88th, and 89th Streets near Sullivan Ave., Edgeworth Ave., and Washington St.
  • Skyline Ave. and Westmoor Ave.
  • Westlake Park Area

Daly City and Broadmoor residents may obtain sandbags at the Water Wastewater Treatment Plant facility located at 153 Lake Merced Blvd. or at the Public Works Corporation Yard located at 501 Citrus Ave., during daylight business hours. Sandbags are limited to 10 bags per household.

Residents may also expect to experience power outages. Be advised to have flashlights and extra batteries on hand. Please do not call 9-1-1 in the event of a power outage. To report a power outage contact the PG&E Power Outage Information Line at (800) PGE-5002. If residents see a downed power line, never touch or go near a downed line. Please leave the area immediately and then call 9-1-1 and PG&E at (800) 743-5000.

During power outages traffic signals at intersections may go dark. When traffic signals are out, motorists must stop before entering the intersection and proceed according to rules established for a 4-way stop. The Police Department will not be present at these intersections. Please use extreme caution.
