City Manager Appoints New Chief of Police - Daly City Police Department Veteran Captain Patrick Hensley Fills Post

City Manager Patricia Martel announced today that she has selected Captain Patrick Hensley, a 23-year veteran of the Daly City Police Department, to serve as the 14th Chief of Police in the department’s history.  Chief Hensley, who grew up in Daly City and attended local public schools, has served his entire tenure as a law enforcement professional with the Daly City Police Department.

“It gives me immense pleasure to announce the appointment of Captain Patrick Hensley as the 14th and newest Police Chief in the history of our police department,” Martel said.  “Chief Hensley has an impressive record covering his law enforcement career and he will continue to make invaluable contributions to our community.”

Hensley has served in the DCPD since 1994 when he began his law enforcement career as a patrol officer.  His initial detailed assignment was serving as a special agent for the San Mateo County Narcotics Task Force.  Subsequently, he served as a training officer for three years prior to his promotion to Sergeant in 2002.  In that capacity, Hensley worked in the Patrol Division, as well as the Training and Recruiting Unit. In 2007, Chief Hensley was promoted to Lieutenant with responsibility for the Patrol Division as a Watch Commander.  Subsequently, he was assigned as Commander of the Investigations Division.  Hensley achieved the rank of Captain in 2012 and was assigned to serve as the Commander of the Support Services Bureau and most recently has led the Field Operations Bureau as Commander.

I am very proud of the opportunity offered to me to serve as Police Chief in the community where I grew up, attended the local public schools and have spent my entire law enforcement career,” Hensley said. “I look forward to the challenges ahead and take very seriously the responsibilities given to me to lead our Police Department.”

The City Council of Daly City was very supportive and complimentary of Hensley’s appointment as Police Chief. “Captain Hensley’s extensive experience and long tenure with the Daly City Police Department make him exceptionally well-prepared to serve as Chief,” noted Mayor Juslyn Manalo.  “His knowledge of all facets of managing the department, combined with his commanding presence as a law enforcement professional, will serve our department and community well.”

A graduate of Notre Dame de Namur in Belmont, Chief Hensley holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services Administration.  Chief Hensley is also a graduate of the F.B.I. Academy, the Law Enforcement Command College, and POST West Point/LAPD Leadership School.  In 2016, the new Chief received a Master of Arts degree in Security Studies/Homeland Security and Defense from the Naval Postgraduate School/Center for Homeland Defense and Security, where he achieved the highest grade point average among the graduating class and was the recipient of the Mark Carr Esprit De Corps Award.
