City Council Selects Sal Torres to Serve as Mayor, Raymond Buenaventura as Vice Mayor

The City Council selected Sal Torres to serve as Mayor its annual reorganization meeting on Monday, December 12. Raymond Buenaventura was chosen to serve as Vice Mayor. Prior to the reorganization of the City Council, outgoing Mayor Carol Klatt named Ray Satorre 2011 Citizen of the Year.

Mayor Torres was elected to the City Council in 1996. This marks his for stint serving as Daly City's mayor. He previously served as mayor in 1999-2000, 2003-2004, and most recently in 2008-2009. He thanked Councilmember Klatt for her leadership during the past year and noted that through her involvement with the community she is best at gauging the “the pulse of our neighborhoods.”

Mayor Torres said he looked forward to the opportunity to serve during Daly City’s centennial year. He recognized that the City would again be facing difficult fiscal challenges, but demonstrated resolve in his brief address.

“It’s a new time for us,” Mayor Torres said. “It is important to put aside our differences and realize that we are all in this together.”

Vice Mayor Buenaventura is the newest member of the city council. He was elected November 8, 2011 to fill a three-year term on the City Council. He thanked his supporters after taking the Oath of Office.

“I am your public servant and I will never forget that,” Buenaventura said. “I have a responsibility to make a difference here in Daly City.”

The next regular meeting of the City Council is scheduled for Monday, January 9, 2012.
